Dota 2 or more commonly known as Defense of the Ancient still remains as one of the top 20-most played Core PC Games. It is still hitting the charts after all these years. It stepped the game up in all countries compared to other Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game. With the statistics soaring as high as always, DotA 2 betting is already dominating the esports gambling industry.



Therefore, if you want to try your luck with esports betting and the DotA 2 arena, it is important to consider a lot of factor. And with that, you should start with understanding the basic terms of esports and DotA 2 online betting.


All-in - betting all your funds in a no-limit selection or market.

American odds - one of the most commonly used odds and also known as moneyline; the odds are expressed in a positive or negative. Positive for the underdog and negative for the favorite team.


Back - betting than an event is going to happen. Opposite of “Lay” betting.


Betting exchange - platforms that serve as middlemen to allow bettors to “Back” or “Lay”

Bookie - another term for bookmakers or sportsbook catering to DotA 2 betting.

Decimal odds - a widely used type of odd that shows the amount the bettor can win every unit staked


DPS – means Damage Per Second. It’s a type of class in DotA 2 that used to describe characters, champions, or heroes that can deliver and deal with large amounts of damage.


Fractional odds - a type of odds expressed in numerators and denominators, showing the possible win and stake


First Blood - a term and a betting market. As a term, first blood means the first team or player that could kill an enemy in the first round. As a betting market, first blood lets you wager on which player or team will kill their opponent. First blood is very common in esports matches, especially DotA 2 online betting.


Hedging - betting against your initial bet place to ensure win no matter the outcome


Laning – always used in MOBA esports. It describe when players push a specific ‘lane’ on the map. These maps are consist of a narrow space that might result to standoffs.


Oddsmaker - a person, company, or group of people predicting the odds for the underdog and the favored team


Stake - a wager placed by the bettor or the amount of money he’s willing to risk.
